Hello ASSP East Texas Chapter Members,

Please join us for our September Chapter Meeting on Thursday, September 17, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM CST.

This month, Abby Holovach, MS, CHMM, CSP, REM, CIT, of Vibe Environmental will present:

Beyond “My Door Is Always Open”: Practical Suicide Prevention for Safety Pros

Safety professionals are trained to recognize hazards, assess risk, and respond when something goes wrong. But mental health concerns can present a very different challenge. Safety professionals may be among the first to notice a meaningful change in an employee, receive a concerning disclosure, or be called when someone simply “isn’t acting like themselves.”

This session will provide practical guidance for recognizing concerning changes, starting difficult conversations, responding when suicide is a concern, connecting employees with appropriate resources, and recognizing when a situation has moved beyond the safety professional’s role.

The discussion will also challenge us to consider whether our organizations are truly prepared for a mental health crisis, including situations involving remote employees, isolated worksites, after-hours events, and employees who refuse help.

The goal of this session isn’t to turn safety professionals into counselors. It’s to help us become better prepared to recognize, respond, connect, and act when it matters.

We hope you can join us!

Best,
